Well, it’s getting to be that time of year again. I’ve decided to draw my line in the sand nice and early. If you have Christmas lights set up on or around your house and they aren’t better than this, than you should take them down immediately as they are a complete waste of time, effort, and electricity.
One of the most popular entries on this site is the one about my feelings regarding the Hot Coffee scandal and all of that stuff. This includes Jack Thompson suing everybody he can get his hands on to try to end all violence and sex in all video games ever in the history of the world. Okay, well that may be a bit of an exageration, but what isn’t an exageration is the fact that he got thrown out of court by a judge when he was arguing for one of his cases against Rockstar (the company behind the Grand Theft Auto series). The judge actually ended up pulling Thompson’s temporary license to practice law in Alabama. Thompson himself had claimed that he had withdrawn himself, but looks like he got kicked out.
Even the judge knows you’re full of shit, Thompson. Give up now while you’re behind.
Well, I like my potatoes. Apparently, Lars (a forum member) likes his potatoes as well. The two of us got together and made a song about our feelings regarding potatoes. I played guitar almost as badly as he sang and, for some crazy reason, I decided to record it.
For all of your listening pleasure, here is the Irish Potato Famine song (right click and select “Save target as…”)
If you change the definition of the word “science,” does it still count? Well, Kansas seems to think so because now they have decided to teach Intelligent Design alongside Evolution in science classes in public schools.
We had somewhat of a lively debate about this over on Neowin (I made several replies, and you can check them out). My underlying message was, whether or not Intelligent Design is better than Evolution or not (even though it isn’t better), it shouldn’t be taught in science classes in public schools. Sure, go for it in religion classes, because it is a religious belief. As for science, Intelligent Design is simply not a science. Look up the work science if you want to, Evolution fits and Intelligent Design doesn’t. So that’s why Kansas had to change its definition of the word “science,” but isn’t that a hint to people that maybe Intelligent Design isn’t truly a science? This reminds me of the Mitch Hedberg joke about the 13th floor in hotels and how they often skip it because of superstitious people. “Don’t those people on floor 14 know what floor they’re really on?”
Also, there are a few people saying that we shouldn’t worry, this isn’t church and government mixing. The “intelligent designer” could be Christian, Jewish, or Muslim. Oh yeah? Giving your god a new nametag doesn’t automatically make him other people’s god too. And what about all of those religions that have multiple gods, or all of those people that simply don’t believe in god. Are they not entitled to their religious beliefs, or lack thereof? Seriously you crazy creationists, give it a rest and go talk to the ceiling — I mean, go talk to Jesus.
Denver, Colorado, has now approved legislation to allow citizens to possess up to 1 ounce of marijuana. It’s a small step, but it seems to be a significant step towards legalizing marijuana here in the United States. Believe it or not, I’m actually a little bit hesitant to jump out on a certain side of the issue and support it completely. Instead, I’d like to see how this thing in Denver goes and make some decisions about my opinion based on that.
As you may have heard, one of the big reasons marijuana is illegal in this country is because the government can’t really tax something that people can grow in the closet in their basement. There are also a bunch of studies that say alcohol is actually more dangerous physically and to people around you than marijuana.
On the other hand, marijuana can often affect people much stronger and much quicker than alcohol. Also, there a bunch more studies that say that marijuana is actually more physically dangerous than alcohol.
On the third hand, there are issues such as deaths from renegade drug dealers and all that crap. Some say that they would decrease because it would be legal to buy and sell. Others might argue that it would increase because the drug dealers would then push harder for cocaine, heroine, and other harder drugs. And there are a million more opinions on that issue alone.
For me, there are just too many unknowns at this point. I just want to wait and see what happens and basically learn more about the entire issue.
