Even Bush’s Website is Stupid

Uncategorized No Comments »

Either I’m picky, or G.W.’s website is really stupid. Actually, it’s probably some of both. Especially a whole lot of the second one. Anyways, on the main front page (click here if you really want to see this for yourself) towards the bottom there is a poll of some sort. It’s little title image says “Quick Vote” and then the questions is, and I quote, “How many working families are benefiting from President Bush’s Jobs and Growth Act?” So right off the bat, I was excited to learn that, according to their website, my vote helps decide reality. Apparently, whichever vote wins will instantly become reality. The 4 possible answers are 12 million, 23 million, 34 million, and 18 million. Notice I’m listing them in the exact same order as the website lists them. I guess numerical order is a little hard when you can’t count. Well, there was no zero answer so I had to vote as low as I could, which would be 12 million. I selected that and hit the button marked “Submit.”

Well son of a bitch. I don’t get to see any results or anything like that. All I get to see is “Sorry, that’s incorrect.” followed by “Thirty-four million working families will receive an average of $1,549 in tax relief each year.” Well what the hell? When you vote, there are no correct or incorrect answers and this little poll thing was marked “Quick Vote“. Then again, if you think back on the 2000 election, understanding the whole idea and process of voting is probably not one of the Bush Administration’s strong suits. In addition to that, they had to spell out the number 34 to make it look a lot bigger, better, and more important.
I guess I should stop here before I get too political. Especially since I don’t care enough to bother to get political. The bottom line is I’m somewhat picky and Bush and his website are exceedingly stupid.

Internet Statistics

As every story starts, I was just surfing around and I ran into something that I found rather interesting. First of all, it’s a little intriguing to take a look at the number of domain names there are. For example, as of today, there are 27,423,944 active .com domain names. Take a look at this page to see what you can see.

The other page that I found interesting was the one that showed the number of IPs by country. I found out that of the just over 2 billion IPs there are in the world, well over half of them are in the US. Take a look at this page to see for yourself.

Who says you don’t learn something new everyday?

By request of a viewer (and something I was meaning to do but until now was too lazy to do), I have updated the Recent Comments section on the left column. It displays the 5 most recent comments. It works like this:

[Name of author of the comment (links either to the URL they provided or their email)] commented on [Title of the entry they commented on (links to that entry in a new window so you can see the whole entry and all of the comments)]:
[Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah (the first 5 words of their comment)]

I hope you all enjoy this and find it useful.

10pm Friday Nights

With a title like that, you’d think that I’m going to be talking about pimps or drug-runners or something exciting like that. But no, I am talking about something painfully annoying and uncool: slow drivers. Damn slow drivers. For example, if the speed limit is 35mph, you’re lucky if they break 32mph. It doesn’t make any sense to me. You would think that at 10pm on a Friday night, you would have all drunkards speeding off to their bars or strip-joints, or maybe some teens hurrying to not break their parents curfew after a hard night of sex and drug use. But no, all I saw were old ladies and other assorted slow pokes that felt that every single speed limit was apparently way too fast to be going. The actual speeds of these people end up breaking down as follows:

Posted Speed Limits :: Actual Speeds
25mph :: You might as well just get out and walk
35mph :: 32mph (at best)
45mph :: 38mph (I try to push them to go faster as much as possible without actually ramming them)
55mph :: 46mph (at this point I am preparing to ram them)
65mph :: 49mph (they are now skidding upside down into the ditch and I am speeding off at 80+mph)

It sickens me that people do this. Especially on Friday nights. I would expect this kind of driving on Sunday afternoons or something when the family is just out for a leisurely drive, but this is just ridiculous. I’ll have to find some way to solve this problem. Until then, I plan to just whine and complain about it.

I Killed The Bots

Uncategorized No Comments »

I know my site recently accumulated 50 some comments from bots offering various weightloss and penis-enlarging drugs. I have finally bothered to actually get rid of all of those comments. Not only that, but I have installed a script that actually “learns” how to detect spam and will automatically do it for me. Don’t ask me how it works. I didn’t make it, I just installed it. I got the handy dandy little MovableType script from here.
